Research and experience have shown children benefit from developing numeracy and literacy skills early—and parents are important partners in that learning. That’s why the Ministry of Education has developed tools you can use at home to help your child develop their skills in numeracy and literacy. Numeracy and literacy together used to be called The Three Rs: Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.
Numeracy—the ability to use basic math skills in everyday life.
Math for Families is a guide for parents with children in Kindergarten and Grade 1. It’s full of great ideas to help make learning numeracy skills part of everyday life.
Literacy—a mastery of the basic principles of reading and writing.
Reading for Families and Writing for Families are resources that are available on the Tools for Parents page of the ReadNow BC Website.
