Independent Schools

In addition to public schools, B.C. has more than 350 independent schools – providing families with even more educational choices. Currently, about 12 percent of B.C. students in Grades K – 12 attend independent schools.

These schools fall into four different groups, depending on:

  • whether they receive provincial funding and
  • whether they meet provincial standards in areas such as curriculum and teacher certification.

For more information about Independent Schools,  visit the Independent Schools website. There you will find an Overview of B.C. independent schools (PDF).

The Federation of Independent School Association (FISA) is an umbrella organization for independent schools groups in B.C.  Visit the FISA website to find out more about them.
