Be The Change

Mike SawkaLast year Vernon Secondary School media and social studies teacher Mike Sawka and his kids took on cyber bullying by producing a mix of dramatic vignettes in the form of a play, live music and music videos. After viewing the production in a packed school gym, over 700 students committed to help stop this type of harassment.

The school district, local law enforcement and local government encouraged Sawka to deliver his program to all schools in the district. While he has been able to present to some, the reality as he states it is, "I have also declined a large number of schools because I cannot always make it work in my school schedule."

The Virtual School Society is proud to help promote Mike’s and his kids efforts by presenting the Be The Change video on the LearnNowBC Web site. In addition to the CyberSafe with Steve Dotto video series and the re-usable anti-bullying toolkit, the Be The Change video delivers a powerful message about the dangers of cyber bullying and encourages everyone to make safe use of the Internet.
